What can we do now compared to last year

What can we do now that we were not able to do last year?

https://www.facebook.com/ahmad.jarouche.94/videos/544191910284726

After 1 pandemic year due to Covid 19, the crisis will help us come together across boundaries. The idea that we can work through anything together  from this crisis. I think it’s an opportunity for the education sector to unite, forge connections across countries and continents, and truly share what works in a global way. I don’t think, prior to this crisis, that we’ve been able to do this, and we will have missed a big opportunity if we don’t try to do that now.  After one pandemic year due to Covid 19, the crisis will help us come together across boundaries. The idea that we can work through anything together  from this crisis.

As teachers , we became more professional in distance learning, blending teaching and how to deal with technology in teaching. It is easier now to invite more than one class if there is no substitute teacher to cover a certain class.

I think it will be easier to understand that schools aren’t just buildings where students go to learn, and that teachers are irreplaceable. There’s something magic about that in-person connection, that bond between teachers and their students

Teaching online Challenges

Challenges you face when learning/teaching online:

1) Technical  issues

2) Connection problems ( week signal, wifi,....)

3) Power supply

4) As a teacher , you can not monitor all students during the lesson.

5) Students may get bored or don't participate

6) Lack of motivation for online learners.

7) Time consumed

8) Difficulties the special need students they face.

9) Fear of cheating

10) Computer knowledge

11) Adaptability

12) Distraction.

How to be a digital person

In This post I would like to write how to be a digital teacher:

In an era where our students are very skilled at harnessing technology creatively in many ways, we see them spending a considerable amount of time playing games and getting attracted to a wide variety of smart devices. So as a math teacher, I should adapt my teaching strategies to equip the demanding need of a changing digital world. Whether in the way I present my content, how I communicate to my students, or how I design my assessments.

Being a digital teacher necessitates presenting content to my students that combines a mixture of pictures, video, audio, and text relevant to the study; this helps minimize the complexity of the task and allow students to retain the lesson concepts in their long-term memory (Moreno & Mayer, 2007). I usually try to deliver my lesson in multiple ways; I let my students express their answers using digital diagrams, flowcharts, or text. Hence, I tried to implement gamification in my Math course. Through mathematical games, I gave the opportunity to my students to enjoy what they are learning, feel motivated and encouraged, compete by sharing their scores, and interact by playing multi-player games. Thus, they found that using technology in learning is not that complicated due to the easy interface of the games. Besides, they recognized how much useful this technology is, especially when they were moving from a certain level to a higher one and noticing how their skills were improving.

Being a digital teacher also requires creating an online learning community where students and teachers can communicate easily, and this also can be extended beyond classrooms. After our experience in online learning during the Pandemic Covid-19, we are now ready to face any obstacles that may obstruct face-to-face learning. For instance, when we have a student who cannot attend the class due to a particular situation (such as surgery or quarantine), we ask him to attend the session online and interact with his friends in class. Consequently, online learning communities serve as useful tools to deliver education through challenging times .

Being a digital teacher also necessitates the use of digital learning platforms that provides flexibility for students. For instance, in my school, students use Sabis Digital Platform (SDP) ©, where they can access the lesson material and prepare diagnostic quiz any time. The SDP gives me an instant steady stream of formative information about how students are performing. Based on the insights that come out of that formative assessment, I accommodate my teaching to fits the learning need of the students.

Being a digital teacher requires always being up to date; because some information or content we teach might become obsolete, the teacher should be a lifelong learner. For instance, do professional development and always utilize and learn new technologies and digital learning tools that give students opportunities for engagement and interaction anytime and anywhere .

Tools that can be used in online assessment:

Tools that can be used in online assessment:

Assessment is  very important for every lesson if it is diagnostic, formative or summative , etc....

Nowadays and with the use of the advanced technology in teaching, there are many tools that can be used in online assessment:

Tools that can be used in online assessment :

1) Soft wear applications like google App that facilitates the process of teaching in class.

2) Mentimeter ,which is a pre-educational templet

3)  Poll every where which is used by many teachers

4)  Game based  assessment tools.

5) Rubrics for assessing qualitative student work such as essays, projects, reports, or presentations.

6) Grading guide which is similar to a marking scheme  .

7) Survey : to take the students opinion, or to have an idea about a certain investigation

8) Checklist

9) Evaluation of instruction.

and other tools.

Technology

Opinion about integrated technology into teaching:

Integrating technology is not about technology itself, it is about content and effective instructional practices .It involves the use of of computers , tablets, mobiles and specialized soft wear , net work communication system and other equipment and infrastructure. Its focus must be on curriculum and learning. Integration is defined not only by the amount or type of technology used , but by how and why it is used.

Integrated technology enhances learning by facilitating discussion and group work. The goal of integrating technology into the curriculum is is to link software , media, and technology with specific instructional objective in ways that facilitate teaching and learning.

It is very helpful to break the routine in class, the designed educational games makes the lesson fun and interesting and students practice the lesson activities in an interesting way. Moreover nowadays, the the world is a small village and you  can communicate with any one to exchange ideas.

On the other hand, you can search for any point, or information needed in few second, so it saves time and facilitate the process of teaching.

Nowadays technology is very important and essential in teaching , during the pandemic   of covid 19, the only option we had is to teach online using the suitable soft wear. Therefore, technology became as n essential pert in eduation

EDUC561

 what I enjoy?

I really enjoy the new technology .The course is introducing  new techniques and how to use new applications and new technology in teaching . It is enjoyable to take the instructions step by step and then have practically an application on how to use or apply it .

Moreover, the course  constitutes technology-enhanced learning environments, the design of environments that will support learning,

What I wish would be different: I am really enjoying every thing in this course and the patience of Dr. Amal to help everyone when needed. I wish we will have class soon together and attend classes and do  the  work in groups instead of doing it online.
